Paung laung river in Zeyathiri, Nay Pyi Taw, was packed with thousands of holidaymakers on the first day of the Myanmar New Year.
Visitors came from the nearest townships on motorcycles or in cars to enjoy the scenic Paung Laung river and mountain ranges.
Many picnickers flocked to the river on the first day of the new year. Some came here from towns outside Nay Pyi Taw, said a local.
A team led by officer U Myo Thura Win from the Zeyathiri Fire Service Department ensured the security of the vacationers, warning holidaymakers to not swim in the deep waters. They patrolled along the river in speedboats, in cooperation with members of the Township Red Cross Society, to rescue victims and provide health services.
