According to the report on the body of a man who died from landmine injuries at the Wetlet People’s Hospital in Sagaing Region on 10 January, officials from the local police force investigated the case.
According to the investigation, Sithu Aung, son of U San Nyunt, a betel farmer in Ngwedwin village, Ayadaw Township, along with four other men and one woman, went to Mandalay by a light truck vehicle driven by Arkar Min, son of U Zaw Lwin to sell betel leaves on the morning of 10 January. At around 5:30 pm, on their way back home near the locally-known Tawat Magyibin bridge between Shwepangon village and Thamayoe village, PDF terrorists reportedly detonated a local-made landmine, forced them to get off the vehicle, shot them, and took K10 million from the sales of betel leaves.
After the mother of Sithu Aung had received the news, she went to the scene by a vehicle from the Shwepangon village social welfare association and found her son on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Although the other five people were found dead, the driver was not present at the scene.
Sithu Aung died of his injuries on the way to Wetlet People’s Hospital and the driver arrived at the Ayadaw Township Hospital at around 7:30 pm. According to him, he fled by the vehicle when the terrorists left and arrived at the hospital through Kutokine village, Ayadaw.
It is reported that necessary investigations are underway so that action will be taken against those who are involved in the crime under the law, and the people are urged to work together by secretly informing any movement of the terrorists to the relevant authorities until they no longer stand. — MNA
