Peace Commission, PNLO makes joint visit to ceasefire area in Mon State

The Peace Commission Chair and members, Union and State Government Ministers, and the Chair and senior members of the PaO National Liberation Organisation (PNLO), made a joint field visit to ceasefire areas in Thaton Township, Mon State yesterday.
The Joint Coordinating Body for Peace Process Funding, chaired by State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and comprising representatives of both government and Ethnic Armed Organisations, identified peace-supporting development as one of the priorities for peace process funding in December 2016.
The visit is a part of the priorities for peace process funding.
The joint delegation held a community consultation in Inn Kway village. Government and PNLO representatives both emphasized that peace and development must go hand in hand. Community representatives presented the development needs of the local people, such as all-weather roads, electrification, health clinics, and jobs including for internally-displaced persons.
All parties expressed a commitment to working together to implement practical results from this field visit, based on this bottom-up guidance.
The delegation members expressed hope that similar field visits to other ceasefire areas would take place in the near future.
The Myanmar Government delegation was headed by Dr Tin Myo Win (Peace Commission Chair) and included Dr Win Myat Aye (Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement), Dr Myint Htwe (Union Minister for Health and Sports), U Thein Zaw (Deputy Chair of the Peace Commission), Dr Aung Tun Thet (member of the Peace Commission) and U Set Aung (Member of the Development Assistance Coordination Unit), along with Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan and State ministers. The PNLO delegation was headed by Chair U Khun Myint Tun.—GNLM
