Union Day, celebrated on 12 February every year, falls on a Monday this year, giving the people of Myanmar an extended weekend. Public and civil servants are taking advantage of this and vacationing at a variety of locations in Nay Pyi Taw.
The following is an interview with a cross-section of people on how they plan to spend this three-day weekend.

U Myint Wai (In Charge of Shwe Taung Yoe Express)Express tickets for Friday were completely sold out, through ordinary sales and via pre-orders. Most of the staff in Nay Pyi Taw either return to their homes in Yangon or Mandalay, or stay here during holidays. Different express services have mostly sold out their tickets, which is usually the case during holidays, such as the current three-day weekend. My family is also spending the long weekend in Taunggyi, Shan State.

Ko Aung Ye Tun (In Charge of Htet Oo Express Gate in Nay Pyi Taw)
Our express (bus) runs along the Yangon-Pathein-Myaungmya-Labutta route. Sales were busy because of the three-day weekend. I noticed that most ticket-buyers were civil servants, who will probably be going home or taking a vacation to refresh their minds. My family members are also civil servants. They are going on a pilgrimage.

Ko Win Naing (Forestry Department)
I am going to my native town, Aunglan Town, Magway Region. I was trying to buy a ticket to go home since Friday, but I only got one for Saturday. I will be going on a pilgrimage, along with my family.
However, I will be back here in time to resume work after the weekend. The family members of most civil servants are also probably taking a vacation like us. However, tickets can only be bought in advance, so I hope they get tickets easily so that everyone who wants to go home can do so.

Ma Sandar Win

I am from Phyu, Bago Region and I am paying a visit to Buddha Gaya in Nay Pyi Taw. We will then visit Lashio. I’m taking a break from my farm work to go on a pilgrimage.

Ma Than Than Sint (From Pyinmana Town)
I am a shopkeeper from Pyinmana, Nay Pyi Taw, but my siblings are public servants. As they have a three-day holiday, I decided to take a break from work for a while and visit the Nay Pyi Taw Water Fountain Garden with them. We took the Shwe Myo Taw line bus to reach the garden.

Ma Pan Nwe Soe (Taikkyi Town)
We are members of an Elephantiasis medical team from Taikkyi Township. We came to Nay Pyi Taw after completing the distribution of medicines. We are vacationing here.
Departmental officials from Nay Pyi Taw brought us to the Nay Pyi Taw Water Fountain Garden. We will also visit other interesting places in Nay Pyi Taw, to enjoy ourselves and gain some knowledge.
