Plans underway to supply electricity to Yangon’s public rental housing units during construction period of sub-power station in project area

The Yangon mayor met officials of YESC and Urban and Housing Development Department to supply electricity temporarily to the sub-power station during its construction period at the public rental housing project in Yangon Region on 23 November.
The first phase of the rental housing project in Dagon Myothit (South) Township will be completed soon and officials discussed cases regarding power needs.
“During the construction period of the sub-station, it should supply power to apartments via the temporary power grid,” said Mayor U Bo Htay.
The tender processes were conducted for 6.5 miles 11-kV overhead line, 47 11/0.4 kV 315 kVA, 200-kVA transformers, and 100-W LED lamp posts and the YESC is still reviewing the Technical Specification. The tender for 66/11 KV power grid and 30 MVA sub-station construction was invited. The construction period will take a long time and there will be electricity problems at the apartments, said Director Daw Aye Aye Mon of the Urban and Housing Development Department.
“It should arrange temporary power cable lines to provide power to the people during the construction period of the sub-station,” said the Yangon mayor.
The public rental housing project containing 10,000 apartments is aimed at government staff, retired for government employees and low-income families, and is implemented in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay. Currently, the first phase with 313 buildings with 5,008 apartments – 28 buildings with 448 apartments in Nay Pyi Taw, 194 buildings with 3,104 apartments in Yangon and 91 buildings with 1,456 apartments in Mandalay is being implemented.
The project in Yangon Region is launched using Union Budget and the Regional budget is spent on the infrastructure. The construction is developed by Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Federation (MCEF) and Myanmar Licenced Contractors Association (MLCA) under the Public Finance Initiative (PFI) system.
