The police have detained and charged a conductor who punched two passengers at the Sawbwargyigone bus stop yesterday morning.
The fisticuffs occurred when U Min Htike, 47, an aluminum worker, and his wife Daw Khin Mya Hnit, a hawker, asked for their change from the conductor, who was not responsible for collecting the fare. The conductor got angry and cursed them, leading to a quarrel that culminated with the conductor punching both passengers, police said.
Regional Hluttaw representatives, officials of the YCDC, police and volunteers were helping passengers at the bus stop. They learnt about the fight a few minutes later and had the conductor arrested along with another conductor involved in the attack. The bus was allowed to go on to avoid unnecessary trouble for passengers already aboard.
The two passengers received medical treatment at Insein Hospital.
Police have charged the conductors according to the law as they failed to change their mentality despite the bus system already being reformed, according to Hluttaw representative U Thar Aung.
