Preparations for disaster underway in Sittway, states and regions

The low-pressure area that is occurring in the southeast of the Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Andaman Sea is gradually strengthening and may become a cyclone, and according to the forecasts, it may enter the Myanmar side.
In the event of a natural disaster, emergency management: role-playing exercises for rescue and rehabilitation tasks are being conducted in various regions and states.
Role-playing exercises for rescue were continued in Pathein, and Yekyi of Ayeyawady Region, and at the state fire station in Hakha yesterday.
The chief ministers, regional command commanders and officials from respective regions and states visited the sites, encouraged such activities, provided support for natural disaster prevention materials and coordinated the necessary activities.
In addition, in the event of a natural disaster, disaster relief teams have been prepared in advance to provide timely assistance.
The storage of relief and supporting materials, preparation of cyclone shelters, and the provision of five types of food and sufficient drinking water are being prepared according to the respective areas.
Western Command Commander Maj-Gen Htin Latt Oo and party checked the proper relocation of cyclone shelters and provision of healthcare yesterday in Sittway and encouraged residents from low-lying neighbourhoods and villages along the coast, which may be affected by the storm.
In addition, the Natural Disaster Management Committee work coordination meeting was held yesterday at the meeting hall of the state government office in Sittway, Rakhine State.
Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, Commander Maj-Gen Htin Latt Oo, and officials were present at the meeting.
The chief minister delivered a speech and coordinated the necessary actions based on the presentations of those who attended the meeting. — MNA/KZL
