President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind, First Lady visit Shwedagon Pagoda

President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Smt. Savita Kovind who were on an goodwill visit to Myanmar at the invitation of the President U Win Myint visited the Shwedagon Pagoda yesterday.
The delegation led by the President of India departed from Nay Pyi Taw to Yangon by flight yesterday afternoon. They were accompanied by Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and officials.
The visiting Indian President and party were welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and wife, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe and wife, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Yangon International Airport.

First, the delegation visited the Martyrs’ Mausoleum and laid wreaths there.
Afterwards, President Shri Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady of India visited the Shwedagon Pagoda and offered flowers, water, lights to the pagoda.
During the visit, they donated cash to the pagoda through the Pagoda Board of Trustees and officials conducted them around the pagoda clockwise.
In the evening, the President of India and First Lady met with Indian community in Yangon at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon.
