President U Thein Sein served a dinner party Saturday to congratulate those who took part in the respective supporting groups at the 25th ASEAN Summit and its related meetings, the members of Myanmar U-19 football team for their entry to FIFA U-20 World Cup and the responsible persons who accomplished to bring three ancient Pyu cities of Myanmar into the list of World Heritage.
The grand dinner party was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre (2), with attendance of more than
1,300, including Vice-President Dr Sai Mauk Kham, speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) Thura U Shwe Mann, speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw(Upper House) U Khin Aung Myint, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, as well as the invited guests.
President congratulated those who could help the country gain recent successes.President said: “These successes are resulted from cooperation of related persons and groups. Myanmar has become a member of ASEAN since 17 years ago with the country’s foreign policy of active role in international affairs by holding the fundamental principles of the country.”
President also thanked to the managers and players of U-19 football team for their success, and accomplishment for enabling the three ancient Pyu cities into World Heritage list.
Myanmar could hold state-level summits beginning January this year, and could establish the ASEAN Institute for Green Economy during the chairmanship of the bloc.
He also said: “Our government has encountered many challenges in democratization efforts. However, these works have been accepted by international community, leading to take part in international events. We have made determined efforts to go ahead, hoping the fruitful results for the country and people with economic development.”
President noted that the government emphasized on the end of internal conflicts as peace and stability is fundamental for the prosperity of the country.
U Thein Sein said that 2014 is a remarkable year for Myanmar as the country could successfully hold the World Economic Forum and the SEA Games in December 2013 thanks to the cooperation of people from respective sectors.
He also acknowledged those who could polish the role of country through their participations in the successful events.
Leaders from ASEAN countries and partner countries in East Asia Summit, namely, the United States, Russian Federation, People’s Republic of China,India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Republic of Korea, pledged their helps for both Myanmar and ASEAN.
U Thein Sein also made a commitment to continue sustaining the theme of ASEAN “Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community”, together with other members of the bloc.
Myanmar also hosted 38th U-19 football tournament of Asia Football Federation, and clinched a victory to the entry of 2015U-20 World Cup which will be held in New Zealand.
President then mentioned the new members of World Heritage list—three ancient Pyu cities, namely, Halin in Shwebo district of Sagaing region, Beikthano in Magwe region and Sri Ksetra in Bago region.
Civilization of these three ancient cities has well developed in 2,000 years ago.
Myanmar proposed eight cultural heritage sites to the UNESCO in 1996, and these three ancient cities were selected to submit as the priority list of World Heritage in 2010.
As a conclusion, President congratulated again those for these significant accomplishments during the term of ASEAN chairmanship for Myanmar.
