President U Thein Sein took part in the third Union Government Cup Golf Tournament held in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday. Over 200 golfers from 34 teams took part in the tourneys which was held in Myodaw and Yaybya Golf Courses. The opening ceremony was held at 6 am  in the morning. Vice President U Nyan Tun, Speaker of Pyidaunsu Hluttaw and Pyithu Hluttaw Thura U Shwe Mann, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of Union Election Commission U Tin Aye and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice Senior General Soe win hit the flash balls to open the ceremony.
Together with the president, vice president U Nyan Tun,  Pyidaungsu Hluttaw speaker, the C-in-C, UEC chairman, Chief Justice of the Union, the deputy commander-in-chief, the union ministers, senior military officers from the office of the commander-in-chief and deputy ministers took part in the tournament.
At Yaybya Golf Course also, Chairman of the Leading Committee of the Holding the Tournament Union Minister U Tint Hsan and Deputy Minister U Zaw Win hit the smoke balls to open the ceremony. In today’s handicap events, Ministry of Defence team stood first with 246 strokes; Ministry of Home Affairs second with 255 strokes, Ministry of Communication third with 257 strokes. In the scratch events, MoD stood first, MoH second and MoC third. The tourney will be held up to 25 January.
