President U Win Myint, First Lady Daw Cho Cho donate pure gold, solid gold, gold leaf robes to the Shwedagon Pagoda

President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Win Myint and First Lady Daw Cho Cho attended the donation ceremony to offer pure gold, solid gold and gold leaf robes to the Shwedagon Pagoda, at 10 am yesterday, at the Ancient Buddha Images Pavilion.
The ceremony was formally opened by Shwedagon Pagoda Ovadacariya Sayadaw Yangon Region Yankin Township Mahadhammikaryone Monastery Kyaikpikyaung Sayadaw Abhidhajamaharatthaguru Abhidhaja Aggamahasaddhamajotika Bhantanta Gunaysana, U Min Thu, Union Minister from the Office of the Union Government, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko, Union Minister for Industry U Khin Maung Cho, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region minister for social affairs, Myanmar Police Force Chief and officials.
At the ceremony, President U Win Myint, First Lady Daw Cho Cho and congregation received the five precepts from the Ovadacariya Kyaikpi Sayadaw, followed by the recitation of parittas (holy protective verses) by members of the Sangha.

Then the ceremony continued with President, First Lady and family donating the gold leaf robes after which the Shwedagon Pagoda alternate Board of Trustee member U Aung Myint accepted it and gave out certificates of honour.
Next, President and First Lady donated offertories to vadacariya Kyaikpi Monastery Sayadaw. Following this, Union Ministers and officials donated offertories to the Ovadacariya Sayadaws and sanghas.
Next, Nyaungtone Pali University Padana Nayaka Aggamanaganthavacakapandita Bhandata Pawayabhivansa delivered a sermon to the congregation, after which the President, First Lady and congregation shared merits gained from the donation.
Then the President and First Lady sprinkled scented water on gold leaf robes and carried the offerings atop the pagoda by using a flying mingalar chariot.
They then attended the inauguration of the gold-leaf mill being constructed in the southern Pyitsaya of the pagoda.
Union Ministers U Min Thu, Thura U Aung Ko and U Khin Maung Cho, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and gold-leaf mill donor Sudhammamanijotadhara U Zaw Win inaugurated the ceremony by cutting the ceremonial ribbons. Following this, President, First Lady and officials sprinkled the stone inscription containing a record of the donation with scented water and inspected the gold-leaf mill.Afterwards President U Win Myint, First Lady, Union Ministers, Yangon Region Chief Minister and officials posed for documentary photographs with the invited guests.
