President U Win Myint met Union Legal Supporting Group Chairman U Nyan Win at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
At the meeting, the President mentioned the importance of implementing the rule of law; maintaining the uprightness of the judiciary sector; citizens obtaining equality, justice and freedom according to the law; providing legal support to law breakers, victims and witnesses; informing and educating the public of their individual and basic rights under the existing laws; reducing unnecessary detention at police detention centres and prisons, and eliminating illegal detentions.
The Union Legal Supporting Group is the main implementing organization for the rule of law and maintenance of the uprightness of the judiciary sector.
Coordination with the state/region governments must be ensured to form state/region level legal supporting groups. Such groups must be formed with well-intentioned people, who can do their jobs correctly. In conducting their works, the processes and plans must be drawn up systematically, said the president in the guideline provided to the group.
