Presidential Pardon

As a gesture of marking the Myanmar New Year, to ensure the peace of mind of the people and taking into consideration the humanitarian concerns, prisoners serving jail terms in various correctional facilities across the country have been given pardon today under the Section 204 (a) of the State Constitution. The order is concerned with punishments for offences committed before the 10th Waning of Tagu, 1382 ME (17 April 2020).
(a) death sentences to be reduced to life sentence (with no release date).
(b) Life sentences without a time limit to be reduced to 40 years (excluding those who have been granted previous pardons from death sentences to the life sentences).
(c) those sentenced to more than 40 years imprisonment to be reduced to 40 years.
(d) those facing 40 years and below to have their prison terms reduced by a quarter of their prison terms.
