Price of Potatoes up, price of tamarind down in commodity market

The price of Chinese potatoes rose in the Yangon market on 6 February. The wholesale price of Bhamo potatoes was K2,100 per viss and that of new and old Chinese potatoes was K2,300-2,400.
Potatoes from Heho and black-skinned potatoes from Bhamo entered the market with the price rate of K2,100 per viss on 2 February. Sinphyukyun potatoes also entered the market and the wholesale price of medium size was K1,700 per viss and the price of A1/OK/S1/S2 sizes was K2,000 per viss.
The price of tamarind rose to K2,500-3,300 in the last week of January, but the price has now come down. The wholesale price of the new Darsin variety is K1,700, that of the new Pwintkat variety is K1,900 and that of new flesh is K2,000/2,800 respectively. Although local tamarind producers expected prices to rise in 2022, all three tamarind varieties were still at low prices at the beginning of the year.
In the year 2022, the prices of most kitchen goods reached a record high. At the beginning of 2023, they were higher than usual but the price of tamarind was still low.
