Prices of palm oil, onion, potato, chilli pepper, pigeon peas slip

Some commodities prices declined on 25 August although the kitchen budgets continued rising in recent days, the Global New Light of Myanmar (GNLM) quoted U Kyaw Lwin, a grocery retailer from Nyaungpinlay Market, as saying.
The wholesale reference price of palm oil in Yangon is set at K4,860 per viss (a viss equals 1.6 kilogrammes) for a week ended 28 August, showing a sharp rise of K720 per viss compared to the rate of the previous week. Meanwhile, the wholesale price hit K9,700 in the markets. Yet, the price slipped to K9,200 per viss on 24 and 25 August.
The price gap between the current market price and the reference price narrowed from K5,500 to K4,300 per viss on 24 August, Ko Kyaw Lwin pointed out.
On 23 August, onion prices jumped to K3,000 per viss at the Bayintnaung Wholesale Market. However, the prices were down by K100-150 per viss on 25 August depending on the sizes, said Ko Chit, a trader who delivers the goods to the regions outside Yangon.
On 24 August 2022, the prices of onions were just K2,300-2,900 for onions from Seikphyu Township and K2,450 -3,000 for Monywa township. This being so, the prices were down by K100 per viss on 25 August 2022.
As locally produced onions are fetching a high price, onions from foreign markets enter the market, onion traders report. Shan potatoes were priced at K1,400-2,200 per viss and the price showed a small decrease of K50-150 per viss, Ko Thein from the potato warehouse on Yetama Street told the GNLM.
In the first week of August, the wholesale price of chilli pepper processed in cold storage touched a high of K19,000-19,500.
On 25 August, the selling price was only K16,000 per viss yet the offering price was just K14,000 per viss.
Meanwhile, the price of black gram (FAQ/RC) was K1,856,000 per tonne, while the black gram (SQ/RC) was worth K2,156,000 per tonne and pigeon peas (red gram) were offered K1,930,000 per tonne on 25 August.
The daily pulses prices data indicated a sharp decline of K35,000-40,000 per tonne in two days. — TWA/GNLM
