Punishments sentenced to detainees involved in riots in Shwepyitha

The military tribunal under the martial law on 22 March sentenced 20 years’ imprisonment with labour each to Min Htet (aka) Lin Htet Paing, son of U Than Tun and Hla Win, son of U Sein Maung, who were arrested in riots in Shwepyitha Township of Yangon Region, under Article 436 of the Penal Code for setting fire to the building of Solamoda garment factory on 16 March and three years’ imprisonment with labour each to Aung Tun (aka) Hsa Mi, Aung Thet Paing (aka) Pi Chay and Win Ko Ko under Article 404 of the Penal Code for buying materials from five unknown persons who were believed to steal these materials from Myanmar Hong Pong Mechanical Electrical Engineering Co Ltd Factory on 14 March and accepting these materials without innocent attitude.
Order of martial law was imposed on 14, and 15 March as garment factories and basic education high schools were set on fire in Hlinethaya, Shwepyitha and Dagon Myothit (North, South and Seikkan) townships in Yangon Region and hindrances were committed to firefighting. Twenty-three kinds of crimes to be heard by military tribunals were announced in the townships involved in the imposition of martial law order. Military tribunals will be formed to effectively and rapidly take action against those lawbreakers. — MNA
