Quality mango is likely to be offered at a high price during the mango season following the resumption of Myanmar-China border trade channels amid the drop in mango yield, as per Myanmar Mango Market and Technology Development Association (Mandalay).
“Majority of Myanmar’s mango exports goes to China. Only a small volume is sent to Singapore, Thailand and Russia. The quality mango is expected to fetch good prices on account of the ease in border trade routes. However, it is hard to find quality ones. The output of mango drops due to flower bud damage. The production rate drastically fell in some areas. Moreover, there might be weather impacts in upcoming months”, said U Kyaw Soe Naing, secretary of the association.
Myanmar primarily exports Seintalone (Diamond solitaire), Shwe Hintha, Padamyar Ngamauk, Yinkwe and Machitsu mango varieties.
There are over 200 mango varieties grown in the country, covering over 257,000 acres. The commercially valued mangoes are Seintalone, Shwe Hintha, Padamyar Ngamauk and Maethi. —Maung Aye Chan/EM
