Quick win projects intended to narrow development gap between Rakhine State and other states

As Rakhine State has restored peace and stability with the outbreak of Covid-19 under control, emphasis is being placed on clearing of landmines to resettle internally displaced persons to their native villages, said Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine at the meeting of the Committee on Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The Union Minister – cum-Chair of Committee on Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development-CHRD, which was formed for Rakhine State on 16 March, pointed out that it is necessary to implement the arrangement on return of the displaced persons from Rakhine State signed by Myanmar and Bangladesh on 23 November 2017 and the physical arrangement for repatriation of displaced Myanmar residents from Bangladesh under the arrangement on return of the displaced persons from Rakhine State signed on 1 January 2018 if these agreements do not harm the interests of the country. She noted that the Chairman of the State Administration Council had given guidance to accept appropriate points in accord with the Citizenship Law 1982. She urged attendees to implement the quick win projects for having remarkable results in a short time for narrowing the development gap between Rakhine State and other states as well as urban and rural areas.
Vice-Chairman of the committee Chairman of Rakhine State Administration Council Dr Aung Kyaw Min and Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Aung Tun Khaing discussed ground tasks in Rakhine State and consideration for tasks related to duty and functions of the committee. The deputy director-general of the Disaster Management Department presented a presentation on repatriation and resettlement for IDPs in Rakhine State. — MNA
