Rakhine State: Tractors, ploughing equipment delivered in time for cultivation of rainfed rice

To contribute to land improvement works performed to restore the livelihoods of farmers in Rakhine State which were destroyed by a very severe Cyclone Mocha, the Agricultural Mechanization Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI) sent out 33 (50 horse-powered) New Holland tractors, 33 six-share ploughs, and 33 blade ploughs to Rakhine State by vessel. Equipment was loaded onto the respective vessel from the Bo Aung Kyaw Port in Yangon yesterday afternoon.
Likewise, the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department has started the excavation works with 12 excavators to repair broken embankments in MraukU, Myebon, and Maungtaw townships. As of 26 May, more than 6,200 suddles had been completed, compared to the target of over 32,000 suddles for the restoration work. Responsible personnel are aiming to complete the restoration work before the rains in the first week of June.
MoALI Deputy Minister Dr Tin Htut is based in Sittway to closely support the restoration of agriculture and livestock in Rakhine State, which was damaged by Cyclone Mocha. Seeds and requirements for agricultural productions, including rainfed rice, and livestock disease treatment and prevention activities were carried out by cooperating with local officials and respective departments. — MNA/CT
