A rehabilitation course for drug addicts was opened at a social rehabilitation center under the Department of Social Welfare in Mandalay yesterday.
The course will provide rehabilitation-focused medical treatment and counseling services for drug addicts. “We will offer physical and mental rehabilitation programs for drug users,” said U Zaw Htike Lin, manager for the center. Accommodation and Ks. 1000 daily allowance will be given to the trainees. Around 20 trainees will be allowed to attend 35 day course. About ten trainees from Mandalay, Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Kengtung have already arrived at the center. “I hope the course gives me a rest and clears my mind,” one of the trainees said. Nine drug rehab centers have been opened in Yangon, Mandalay, Myitkyina, Kawthoung, Tachilek, Keng-tung and Lashio.
