Singer Sai Sai Maw, known nationwide for songs celebrating the beauty of Shan State, passed away at ‘Kaung’ Specialist Hospital in Insein Township at 7:15 pm yesterday. He was 76 years old at the time of his death and had been homebound for several years due to declining health.
On 6 July, his condition deteriorated significantly, prompting a life-saving injection that initially improved his health. However, due to low oxygen levels, he was admitted to the hospital on 17 July and passed away the same day.
Sai Sai Maw, originally from northern Shan State, came from a musical family. His elder brother, Sai Long Shai, a composer, passed away at his home in PyinOoLwin on 7 August last year at the age of 81. — TWA/HOM/TKO
