The Research Paper on the Effects on Employment Opportunities for People Living With Disabilities was introduced at Royal Nay Pyi Taw Hotel in the capital yesterday.
Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Soe Aung delivered an address first where he said they have already formed the National Committee on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (NCRPD) and successive working committees each with their own assigned duties. The Deputy Minister said this research paper will be of invaluable assistance to the working committees’ tasks, which include ensuring PLWDs are given the same employment opportunities as everyone else and monitoring implementations, creating an obstacle-free work environment for PLWDs, and raising their skillsets.
The Deputy Minister said the assessments and suggestions in section 6 of the paper have an effect on the job opportunities for PLWDs. He said relevant ministries, businesses, organizations championing for persons with disabilities and PLWDs themselves can increase their participation in all related sectors. Next, the Chairman of Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities (MFPWD) explained the reason for compiling the research paper and Prof Dr Khin May Than (Ret.) of the Statistics Department explained the processes behind the compilation. Officials then replied to questions from the audience.
The event was concluded after a gratitude speech from the General-Secretary of MFPWD. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
