Durian price is up this year only because of the low yield caused by weather, according to the Durian market from Thapyay Nyunt village, Kyaukkyi township, Bago region.
The durian sellers from Kyaukkyi sold their durians in the 115 mile camp and durian shops within Pyu township. They are selling durians between Ks 2000 and Ks 4000 for small one, Ks 4000 and Ks 7000 for medium-sized one and Ks 10,000 for big one in Pyu market. But, durian sold in 115 mile are expensive. Despite the price increase, customers still buy because there is no other fruit that is as tasty as durians.
This year, we are faced with low supply of durians due to the erratic weather and the price has increased. The low supply of durians has also affected the motorbike drivers who earn their living chiefly on carrying the durians.
