Rising demand and prices boost ginger growers

G1

Farmers have chosen to grow more ginger due to the rising demand and the excellent price, according to the ginger trade market.
They said that with higher demand, the local price of ginger can go up.
“The price of Myayni brand ginger is K 2,800, K 2,900 or K3,000 per viss. The demand is high. We can’t say about the price. It varies from year to year. We mainly grow ginger. We expect the price of ginger to rise in the next three or four months,” said a ginger farmer from Aungban township.
Farmers suffered losses when the ginger price was just around K 500 a viss in 2022 summer, but the price rose again in early 2023, and more farmers opted to grow ginger.
Myanmar exports ginger to China, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Yemen, Indonesia, Pakistan, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, according to the records from the Department of Trade, under the Ministry of Commerce. — Thit Taw/ZN
