SAC makes a special effort to achieve lasting peace in the entire country, designating 2022 as a peace year: SAC’s Information Team Leader

The year 2022 has been designated as a year of peace to end the long-running armed conflict in our country. We are working in various ways to achieve lasting peace in the whole country, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, Team Leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council, at the 13th press conference of the information team held on 27 April.
The State Administration Council contacted ethnic armed organizations-EAOs, which have signed the National Ceasefire Agreement-NCA and the EAOs which have not signed the agreement, hoping that all will work together for the benefit of all the people of the Union. Of ten ethnic armed organizations-EAOs that have signed the NCA –KNU, RCSS/SSA, PNLO, CNF, KNLA, DKBA, ABSDF, ALP, NMSP and LDU, nine organizations were contacted and could attend the meeting. Of 11 ethnic armed organizations which have not signed the NCA: UWSA, NDAA, NSCNK, KIO, KIA, KNPP, ANC, SSPP, TNLA, MNDAA, WNO and AA, eight organizations were contacted, and there will be a possibility to attend, it is reported.
The Information Team Leader also said that the peace process is essential for the country. The last point in the five-point roadmap of the State Administration Council is to hold a multiparty democracy general election if completed according to the provisions of the emergency period. He added that his government has firmly guaranteed multiparty democracy, a nationwide system supported by all the people.
“We are working to hold the election in the whole country according to the term ‘General Election’ to end armed conflicts and let the people express their will by voting without any unjust influence,” he said.
He urged the people and stakeholders to work together as the SAC exerts its utmost to make a free and fair election happen without armed conflicts, armed domination, intimidation, and unfair influence.
In his speech on peace delivered on 22 April 2022, State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that establishing a union based on democracy and federalism, which the government, Tatmadaw and ethnic armed organizations-EAOs have demanded, has been firmly guaranteed. He called on all ethnic armed organizations-EAOs to hold talks with him to implement it effectively, announce the participants’ names by 9 May 2022, and have an honest frank discussion to enjoy peace and development. — Htun Htun/GNLM
