State Administration Council Member Khun San Lwin, accompanied by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung and relevant officials, handed over cash assistance and relief supplies for the flood-hit victims at the monastery in Sanphu village, Hopong township of Pa-O self-administered zone yesterday.
They first took five precepts from the Presiding Patron Sayadaw of the Naungtaung Parahita TatU Monastery and donated offerings.
The SAC member then comforted the flood victims, highlighting the arrangements for their safe return, rehabilitation processes, access to drinking water and reopening of schools.
The SAC members and party presented foodstuffs and K15 million each for Htitagu-Naungday village-tract, Loimao region and Khaungnwe-Indaw region, Loilem township, Monastery Presiding Sayadaw, and the commandant of MCTI presented K3 million donated by U Zaw Win and Daw Nway Nway Win family to Lin Kha La Sayadaw.
They donated day meals to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha and inspected the healthcare services at the Sanphu Monastery.
Due to the heavy rainfall on 11 September, 261 houses were totally destroyed, 336 were partially destroyed, and the death toll reached 26 in Sanphu village, Hopong township, where 4,497 people of 1,095 households were residing.
The SAC member and party then headed to the Hanlwe Monastery and met with flood-impacted people in the Konkyaing village-tract. They consoled the victims and donated K20 million in food and other necessities.
There are 3,617 people from 691 households and 684 houses in Konkyaing village-tract, Pongin region. The flood hit five villages, including 570 people of 140 households; 23 houses were totally destroyed, and 34 were partially destroyed. — MNA/KTZH
