SAC Vice-Chair Dy PM Vice-Senior General Soe Win attends 2/2022 meeting of Central Committee on Copyright

State Administration Council Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win addressed the 2/2022 meeting of the Central Committee on Copyright held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw at 2 pm yesterday.
Also present at the meeting were Union Minister U Aung Naing Oo, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, directors-general and responsible personnel.
In his address at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Myanmar enacted trademark copyright law, mechanical design copyright law, invention copyright law and literature and art copyright law in 2019 and preparations for the implementation of copyright laws are being done by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Planning and Finance and the Supreme Court of the Union.
The Vice-Senior General continued to say that copyright plays an important role in a country’s foreign trade, investment, trade promotion, and cooperation in science and technology. Therefore, he said, it is vital to establish the copyright system as an important sector. He also noted that Myanmar joined the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2001 and it is time to implement a copyright system that would not only encourage the creativity of the people but also contribute to the nation’s socioeconomic development and that it is necessary to make sure that the copyright laws come into effect and to raise the momentum of registration work for copyright.
The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that the creative power of the people of a nation is in direct proportion to its development and, therefore, it is a pressing need to implement a copyright system that would protect the works of inventors and creators and would enable them to enjoy the benefits of copyright under the law.
The Vice-Senior General also pointed out that there are 32 members on the central committee on copyright and it is necessary to appoint four experts in trademark copyright, mechanical design copyright, literature and art copyright and invention copyright and it will also be required to appoint technicians and experts after the formation of the copyright agency.
Then, Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee Union Minister U Aung Naing Oo explained copyright and Secretary of the Central Committee Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung explained the implementation of the resolutions of the 1/2022 meeting of the Central Committee.
After hearing the explanations, the Deputy Prime Minister coordinated the work to be done and the requirements to be fulfilled. He then gave a concluding remark and the meeting came to a close. — MNA
