As Covid-19 can be controlled to some extent, an emphasis is being placed on undertaking regular healthcare services, treatment, research and medical education at full capacity in remedying the Covid-affected workplaces, said Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win at the inauguration ceremony of the five-storey annexe of Orthopaedic Speciality Hospital-Yangon in Kyimyindine Township of Yangon Region yesterday morning as a gesture of hailing Diamond Jubilee Independence Day.
The Vice-Senior General unveiled the signboard of the annexe and sprinkled scented water on it.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General said that as Covid-19 can be controlled to some extent, an emphasis is being placed on undertaking regular healthcare services, treatment, research and medical education at full capacity in remedying the Covid-19-affected workplaces. There are 1,178 hospitals under the Ministry of Health, 83 of which are being operated in the Yangon Region. The Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital-Yangon was established as a Home for the Disabled and Leprosy in 1895 and designated as an orthopaedic hospital in 1976. It was upgraded to a 300-bed hospital in January 2012 to provide orthopaedic treatments to the patients. Due to population density and smooth transport facilities, 10 central-level speciality hospitals are operated to provide treatment to patients. The government appointed fresher assistant doctors and nurses, conducted necessary training courses for turning medical technicians and nurse-aids in cooperation with medical technicians from the Ministry of Defence as well as the postgraduate courses for producing subject-wise specialist doctors while building new hospital buildings and staff housing for service personnel with provisions of allowances.
The Vice-Senior General urged the medical superintendent and all health staff to systematically maintain the hospital building for its long-term existence.
The Vice-Senior General accepted the commemorative gift presented by Union Minister for Health Prof Dr Thet Khaing Win.
