Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi inspected frozen shrimp and seafood processing works of the private fishery industry in Yangon Region such as Yadana Theingi Cold Storage, Golden Boy Limited, Gyogon Fish and Shrimp Cold Storage, Myint Myat Hein Company Limited on 23 April in Yangon.
At the Department of Fisheries’ satellite-based vessel monitoring systems (VMS) branch (Yangon), the deputy minister viewed the monitoring of inshore and offshore trawlers in fishery works.
The branch is monitoring if the fishing trawlers exceed the designated fishing areas, if they enter within 10 miles of inshore waters or a restricted area. It also supervises the inspection for silent vessels and location delivery within four hours in case of silent vessel stopping at the port. Location information will be provided within 12 hours if it is not reported for more than four hours. Location information will be sent within four hours in case of silent while operating at sea.
If the silent occurs for more than four hours, the VMS Control Centre and the relevant Region and State Fisheries Departments will be notified, and within 48 hours, the vessel must be inspected and must carry out repairs.
In the evening, the deputy minister visited the Soil Utilization Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture in Insein Township and inspected the laboratory analysis of soil, irrigation water, plant parts, and fertilizers. The deputy minister also instructed officials to publish crop types suitable for each soil and climate, educate farmers on the nutritional requirements of each crop and disseminate soil development technologies that will have short-term and long-term benefits.—MNA
