Schools reopened under COVID-19 precautionary measures in Nay Pyi Taw

After a speedy vaccination to students over the age of 12, the Government has announced to reopen schools on 1 November that were temporarily closed since July in various regions and states due to the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak.
As the spread of the COVID-19 virus has also declined in the country, schools are now welcoming students back under the COVID-19 prevention measures set by the Ministry of Health. Teachers make sure that students are wearing masks and face shields at all times, in addition to taking temperature and monitoring the hand washing of the students before entering the school.

To prevent the crowd, classrooms are also prepared for only 30 or 40 students in one room. It is also learnt that a total of 971 students, 90 per cent of the students, attended No (6) Basic Education High School in Nay Pyi Taw, according to U Win Khaing, headmaster of the school. He also added that students who have not been enrolled for various reasons will be accepted within three weeks, and a total of 517 students in the school have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
At No (5) Basic Education High School in Nay Pyi Taw, classroom arrangements have been made to ensure that students can attend school as per the COVID-19 guidelines. As the school is in a central location, it is guarded by security. There are reportedly a total of 877 students who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and students are invited to come and receive the vaccine. U Win Myint Oo, headmaster of the school, said arrangements will be made to vaccinate the rest of the students, and those who haven’t enrolled yet will be admitted within three weeks.

It is also seen that teachers, township administration bodies, members of the Fire Brigade and the Myanmar Police Force are providing security in and out of the schools so that children can learn safely. Schools were opened on 1 June and closed on 9 July during the COVID-19 outbreak in Myanmar. It is reported that there are a total of 757 basic education schools, 28 monastic education schools and 74 private schools in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory. — Aung Thant/GNLM
