Oxygen, being everywhere, was rare for COVID-19 patients in the early third wave of COVID-19 in Myanmar. Most of the patients needed much oxygen for their survival in the miseries of the Saturn COVID-19.
The infection rate of COVID-19 gradually rose in Myanmar, especially in Yangon and Mandalay regions. The government issued the lists of townships included in the stay-at-home programme one after another. The number of confirmed patients was growing day by day.
The oxygen demand rose in Myanmar in June and July. Meanwhile, all people strived to get oxygen for their patients and their families. As the highest demand, the people needed 31,298 cylinders on 18 July according to the global monitoring indicator. Such a period was a bitter time for the people. They searched for oxygen contributed by charity organizations. Unfortunately, most of these organizations have already supplied oxygen to earlier patients.
Actually, oxygen is abundant in the atmosphere. But, only technically purified oxygen is appropriate for the treatment of patients. To get the oxygen through the correct way, not only patients but also other people need to abide by the health guidelines of the authorities.
Some patients lost lives because they missed chances to use the oxygen in time. Among them, some patients have the chance to use oxygen but did not know the techniques for how to control the appropriate supply of oxygen to patients for breathing. In fact, everybody needs to follow the instructions of physicians in using oxygen.
The demand for oxygen declined to 18,667 cylinders on 20 August. As the infection rate of disease was remarkably down, not only the government but also charity organizations are able to supply sufficient oxygen to the people. At present, the government allows businesspersons to import oxygen in addition to other medical supplies without any trade restrictions for solving the health problems of the people on one hand. In this regard, local-made and imported oxygen cylinders must have a guarantee for quality.
To avoid the too much oxygen requirement in the emergency period, the government implements the plans to establish oxygen plants in various townships of regions and states including the far-flung areas and to provide oxygen to the hospitals as part of readiness to fulfil the oxygen needs of the people.
