Among types of paintings that are used for interior decoration, seashell art paintings have caught many attentions in Myanmar traditional painting and sculpture market.
“The market has been a little slow during the three-month Buddhist Lent but gemstone paintings and seashell art paintings are being sold well, at present. They can attract customers. Housewarming ceremonies and wedding receptions are few during the three-month Buddhist Lent, but there are some shop-opening ceremonies and birthday parties. So we have buyers. Tapestries also attract buyers. But as I said earlier, gemstone paintings and seashell art paintings are more affordable than pieces of tapestries, so they are more marketable,” said an official from Burma Art Zone art and sculpture gallery in Thuwunna, Yangon.These years, many young people have been expressing interest in Myanmar art and sculpture artworks and there are foreign buyers too, she said.
“Unlike before, young people become interested in art and sculpture artworks these years so the sales at art galleries become better. Foreign expatriates are also interested in our Myanmar artworks, some are interested in painting and some are interested in works of tapestry,” she said. — Thit Taw/ZS/ED
