Seed balls scattered for reforestation in Shan, Sagaing

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and the Ministry of Defence scattered seed balls on wetland areas in Shan State and on former gold mines in Sagaing Region as a move for reforestation yesterday. A total of 300,000 seed balls, which include 13 varieties of seeds, were thrown by using a helicopter in Inle’s deforested areas in Nayungshwe Township, Taunggyi District in southern Shan State. Shan State government’s Chief Minister Dr Lin Htut and ministers, Pyithu Hluttaw representatives and Deputy Commander of eastern Command Brigadier General Win Zaw Moe attended the aerial seeding event.
Some 100, 000 seed balls were broadcast by a helicopter in nine deforested areas by mining in Homalin Township, Khandi District in Sagaing Region.
Pyithu Hluttaw representative, Aymotha Hluttaw representative and Region Hluttaw representative, Homalin Air Base’s Acting Chief and officers, departmental officials, town elders, and Forest Department’s Director and officials were present at the event. In addition to aerial seed scattering, other reforestation methods were also used to replant trees since the third week of 2020. A total of 1,070,000 seed balls were sown by people in Chin State, Sagaing Region, Magway Region, Shan State and Nay Pyi Taw in the first week of June 2020. —MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
