Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thien, accompanied by regional ministers and departmental officials, attended the handover ceremony of seeds and agrochemical fertilizer to fully recover the flood-affected crops in Taikkyi Township yesterday.
During the ceremony, the chief minister underscored that the continuous rain in July caused floods in some villages of Taikkyi Township, and the recuse works were conducted. Moreover, the flood victims were also provided with basic foodstuffs. A total of 62,902 acres of monsoon paddy of 8,708 farmers from 55 village-tracts were flooded, and 61,334 acres were affected. A total of 54,042 acres were destroyed, and 33,283 acres were cultivated, and it remains 20,759 acres to plant again.
He then mentioned the benefits of using seeders.
The chief minister and party provided the farmers with 90-day paddy seeds and agrochemicals and observed the paddy cultivation processes using a seeder in Utothaepya Village.
Due to the floods in Yangon, a total of 99,460 acres of monsoon crops — 99,205 acres of monsoon paddy, 90 acres of monsoon sesame and 165 acres of monsoon maize of 14,374 farmers of 215 village-tracts of 15 townships were flooded from 16 July to 30 August.
Therefore, 74,011 acres of monsoon paddy, 90 acres of monsoon sesame and 165 acres of monsoon maize were destroyed, and the cultivation was completed for 35,443 acres by 6 September. — San Kyaw Oo (IPRD)/KTZH
