World nations are striving to enable their peoples to enjoy higher social status, security and stability, working together with regional countries, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing told the 12th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (12th ACDFIM) on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Commander-in-Chief of Defence Service Senior General Min Aung Hlaing recalled ASEAN’s success stories in cooperation with international organizations and dialogue partners in maintaining peace and stability, enhancing security, building mutual trust and stepping up counter-terrorism efforts.“The spread of terrorist networks across the world has propelled us into the exchange of information through effective teamwork,” he said, stressing the need to counter terrorism by honing human capacity to strengthen economic growth.
ASEAN should come together to establish a united regional community and ensure its people stability, peace and security, he urged.
The army chiefs at the 12th ACDFIM signed a joint statement, following a meeting on a two-year project to be implemented by the defence forces of the Southeast Asian bloc from 2015 to 2017.
The 13th ACDFIM will take place in Laos.In the evening, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing paid a courtesy call on Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and discussed regional affairs.Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also attended a press conference relating to the 12th ACDFIM and responded to queries raised by the media.
