Severe action must be taken against those who repeatedly committed illegal trading activities: Vice-Senior General

Those who committed endless offences must be taken severe action not only under the Customs Law but other related laws, said Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win at the meeting 3/2023 of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee at the hall of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General, who is also in the capacity of Chairman of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, unveiled that cargo trucks along the trade routes were examined through the QR code system more quickly. Moreover, the E-lock system arranged for the transport of commodities is under arrangements to examine the trucks. The Vice-Senior General urged all to widely discuss applying the QR code and E-lock systems in examining the export of commodities.
The Vice-Senior General recounted that the Prime Minister has given guidance that efforts must be made for manufacturing the basic personal goods to meet the domestic demand and export the surplus to foreign markets. Only when necessary raw materials arrive in the market in time will production soonest kick-off. If not, cheaper products from other countries will flow into the domestic market through illegal routes, harming the existence of local SME businesses. As such, it is necessary to effectively eradicate illegal trade.
The Vice-Senior General stressed that severe action must be taken against those who repeatedly committed illegal trading activities. Those who committed endless offences must be taken severe action not only under the Customs Law but other related laws.
If setting the fine for the value of seized commodities is less than the actual prices in the market, offenders will carelessly accept the fine for their seized commodities. As such, action against them must be taken severely without daring to commit more illegal trade measures.
Those from illegal trade eradication special task forces in regions and states have to make polite relations with the people at the checkpoints and security posts, and action must be taken against those who committed the disciplines.
The Vice-Senior General instructed chairpersons of the special task forces to take severe action against those from the task forces, one-stop service troops and security forces for the illegal measures harming the original duties.
Secretary of the steering committee Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung reported on the accomplishment of the decisions adopted in the meeting 2/2023.
Departmental heads reported on letters submitted to the meeting 3/2023 of the steering committee.
Vice-Chairmen of the steering committee Union Ministers Lt-Gen Soe Htut and U Win Shein, member Union Minister U Aung Naing Oo also discussed the comparison of export and import process between Myanmar and Thailand, seizures of narcotic drugs, chemical precursors, illegal drugs and cosmetics, and applying QR Code in examining the illegal goods.
The leader of the office work of the steering committee read the draft decisions of the 3/2023 meeting. The meeting ended with the coordination of the Vice-Senior General.—MNA/TTA
