Including the Yangon Region, djenkol beans produced from Shan State are consumed the most in Hpa-an, Myawady and Mawlamyine, and orders become mounted, according to the vegetable market.
Djenkol beans, produced by Shan State, are one of the most-consumed foods, and their price has been higher this year compared to last year. In Yangon, they are distributed at the Danyingon market and the Htaukkyant market.
“Price quite differs this year compared to last year. The price is pretty good this year. The trade also increases. The price fluctuates, and demand becomes better. Sometimes, we need to break the trading because of the weather for about three days, but orders increase when we resume the trade. Rather than people in Shan State, djenkol beans are consumed the most by people in the lower part such as Hpa-an, Myawady, Mawlamyine and Yangon,” said an official from a Shan djenkol bean and pear wholesale centre at Aungban vegetables wholesale trading centre. It is the harvest season of Shan State’s djenkol beans, which starts in July and ends in Thadingyut (Myanmar lunar month).
“Shan’s djenkol beans sold in a basket and weigh eight visses,” he added.
