The Buddha Pujaniya festivals and sermon-reciting events are planned to be celebrated at Shwedagon Pagoda during Buddhist Lent, according to U Bo Thin, a member of the Pagoda Board of Trustees.
“During the three months of Buddhist Lent, religious ceremonies will be held on a grand scale. The Dhammacakka Day ceremony and the Waso-robe offering ceremony will be celebrated on the full moon day of Waso, 20 July. In addition, the Metta Day ceremony and offering ceremony with 84,000 pieces of miscellaneous flowers will be held on Wagaung full moon day on 19 August. Similarly, the Garu Dhamma Day on Tawthalin full moon day, 17 September, the lighting festival on the day before Thadingyut full moon day 16 October and the Abhidhamma Day ceremony on Thadingyut full moon day, 17 October will be organized,” said U Bo Thin.
Similarly, it is also scheduled for the pilgrims to take the Sabbath from Shwedagon Pagoda Ovadacariya Sayadaws between the full moon day of Waso and Thadingyut full moon day every Sabbath day. — ASH/MKKS
