Shwemawdaw Pagoda in Bago to arrange lighting festival

Officials of Bago Region are arranging to hold lighting festival at Shwemawdaw Pagoda.

A lighting festival including donation event for 5,000 Buddhist monks will be conducted at Shwemawdaw Pagoda, Bago Township, Bago Region on the full moon day of Thadingyut, according to U Aye Maung Kyi, Secretary of the Bago Region Government.
A total of 10,000 oil lamps will be lit at the event, and the market fair will last for three days from 28 to 30 October.
“Oil lamp lighting ceremony is held yearly at Bago’s Shwemawdaw Pagoda and it will be held in the morning and evening of 29 October, the full moon day of Thadingyut. Similarly, The lighting festival and market fair will be held at the same time.
“The event will be launched along the west archway of the pagoda by illuminating colourful lights. Shin Upagutta image will be kept on the raft in the moat near the pagoda starting 29 October. And then, ceremonies to set the Upagutta image and oil lamps adrift of water will take place on 30 October,” he added.
The festival will feature a market fair where MSME products will be displayed and sold, and local products will be introduced to consumers across the country. The Festival-goers will be entertained by Myanma Orchestra. — ASH/KZL
