Six tourism destinations in Sagaing Region attracts over 93,000 tourists, homegrown visitors in past 10 months

A total of 92,313 homegrown visitors and 1,180 tourists flocked to six tourism destinations in Sagaing Region between January and October 2022, according to the Sagaing Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
The regional tourism committee held a meeting on 30 November at the meeting hall of the Sagaing Region government office, with a view to ensuring the safe and sound travel of local visitors and tourists and creating jobs for local residents from tourism-dependent businesses.
The committee highlighted fair price of hotels and guesthouses, providing good service, keeping tourism sites clean, conservation of cultural heritage in the region, advertising travel destinations in the region on the website or other forms of Ads such as pamphlets, efforts to enhance the socioeconomy of the local community, transport and security conditions.
The famous tourist sites are Sagaing Hill, Sun U Ponnyashin, U Min Thonze (30 caves) Temple, Kantalu Pagoda, Kyauknaga Pagoda and Sheinmakar area. Mingun Yokeson monastery, Mingun bell and Myatheintan Pagoda.
There are 60 hotels and guesthouses operated under the Sagaing Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in 11 townships.
There are six tourism zones in Sagaing Region: Sagaing, Monywa, Shwebo, Katha, Kalay and Khamti. Local pilgrims mostly flock to Zalon Taung and the reclining figure called the Alaungdaw Kathapa. Normally, those places are crowded with pilgrims during the high season. — Lu Lay/EMM
