Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is providing healthcare items to prevent, contain and give treatments of COVID-19 diseases at the camps of internally displaced persons in Rakhine State.
The ministry is working together with local governments, relevant ministries, international organizations, local civil societies and well-wishers to provide humanitarian aid to these camps and has adopted preparatory plans to prevent transmission of COVID-19 diseases among the internally displaced persons.
In line with the plan, dissemination of information, awareness programmes for rules and guidelines through hand speakers and loud speakers, distribution of soaps, transfers of suspected patients and closely contact persons and drawing flow charts to the referred places.
Moreover, peoples at the camps were provided with reusable masks, soaps, hand gel, hand washing basins, infrared thermometer, distribution of disinfectants, lime bags, face-shields, building temporary shelters for quarantine, giving necessary food supplies and cash-for-work programmes.
On 2 May, the ministry used two trucks to carry the health- care items from the Central Warehouse in Yangon Region.
The items included 30,000 surgical masks, 5,000 cloth masks, 39,460 bottles of hand gel, 100 units of infrared thermometers, 173 hand speakers and 164 memory sticks with audio files for healthcare awareness to the camps of Thetkalbyin, Mawthinyar, Darpai, Khaungdotekar, Bawdupha (1), Bawdupha (2), Ohntawgyi (north), Ohntawgyi (south), Ohntawchae, Saythamargyi, Barsarar and Thaechaung in Sittway Township, and Kyeinnibyin and Sintatmaw camps in Pauktaw Township.
Due to the awareness programme, the locals are using face masks when they went for shopping and travelling.
From 28 March to 5 May, with awareness campaigns, the ministry has distributed 16,330 soaps, 35,494 face masks, 12 hand washing basins, 16,727 bottles of hand sanitizer, 19 thermometers, 12 hand speakers and 12 memory sticks at the IDP camps in Rakhine State.
A total of 270 hand washing basins and accessories will soon be set up at the camps.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
