Special SOME-2022 and ACE meetings held to discuss energy sector

The Special Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (Special SOME-2022) and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) were held by Brunei Darussalam on 26 and 27 January through a videoconference system. Permanent Secretary U Than Zaw and officials from the energy sector attended the meeting.
At the meeting, they reviewed and approved the activities carried out by Brunei Darussalam in the second phase of the ASEAN Plan of Actions for Energy Cooperation-APAEC 2016-2025, which is the cooperation among ASEAN member countries in the development of the energy sector which is important for the development of ASEAN region.
Next, officials focused on ASEAN energy cooperation sub-sectors, including issues of the ASEAN Petroleum Council, Coal and Refinery Technology Division, ASEAN Electric Power Sector, Energy efficiency and energy saving sub-sector, renewable energy sub-sector, regional energy policy and management sub-sector, and urban nuclear power sub-sector.
The ASEAN Energy Policymakers Network and the ASEAN Energy Centre Upgrading Sector also agreed to co-chair the ASEAN Energy Sector chairmanship of Cambodia in 2022.
In addition, the meeting of the ACE Governing Council will be held on 27 January and senior ASEAN energy officials will discuss and approve the staffing, financial and governance issues of the ASEAN Energy Sector. — MNA
