SPL football tourney to be held behind closed doors

The 2021 football season of AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) will continue behind closed doors starting this month, said the source with the ASEAN Football Federation.
“All the matches will be played in accordance with additional community measures announced earlier this month by the COVID-19 Multi-Ministry Taskforce,” officials said.
“The return of spectators to SPL matches in recent weeks was a heartening sight, but the well-being of the football fraternity and the wider general public will always be our top priority, and we encourage all to adhere to the prevailing safe management measures.
“SPL fans will still be able to watch every SPL match live on broadcast at Singtel TV, StarHub TV, and live streaming online via the SPL Facebook page and YouTube channel, as well as the Facebook page of 1 Play Sports,” the football authorities added.
The Singapore Premier League currently comprises eight clubs, consisting of three rounds in which each team plays every other team once.
The football seasons run from late March to October, with teams playing 21 matches each, and thus a total of 147 games to be played in one season. —GNLM
