SSB compensates K77.466 bln to over 1.6 mln for insured workers in 9 years

The Social Security Board contributed K77.466 billion in social benefits to 1,648,175 insured workers under the Health Insurance Scheme as of August in the current financial year 2022-2023 since the 2014-2015FY, according to the Ministry of Labour.
On 5 August, three insured workers of Premier Coffee Luvia Co Ltd registered at the SSB in Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon Region, died in a head-on collision accident when a Dyna vehicle crashed into a ferry. Social security benefits were given to the family of the deceased at a ceremony held at the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry on 26 September.
A total of K32,462,650 death benefits (lump-sum death payment) were disbursed to the family members of Social Security beneficiaries with K11,118,000 of the survivor benefits to a spouse of insured worker Daw San Yu Maw, K10,473,100 to a spouse of U Myo Ko Ko and K10,871,550 to a family member of Daw Sandar Khaing under the Social Security Law 2012.
After the new law came into effect in the 2014-2015FY, K77.466 billion have been granted to a total of 1,648,175 insured workers as of August this FY. Workers’ compensation insurance covered 63,819 insured workers with K6.977 billion benefits.
According to the Social Security Law 2012, health insurance schemes and workers’ compensation insurance schemes were implemented. If five per cent of monthly income is put into an insurance scheme, the insured workers and their families can enjoy 15 types of social security contributions including benefits and compensation coverage from the Social Security Board, according to the Ministry of Labour.
There are 1,064,269 insured workers from 33,426 registered workplaces at the SSB in 116 townships across the country and 13,268 workplaces were registered in Yangon Region with 755,908 insured workers. The SSB has been providing health care and benefits at three general workers’ hospitals, 96 township clinics, 58 departmental clinics, one traditional clinic and 17 Social Security Scheme clinics under the public and private partnership, and three mobile medical vehicles. — TWA/GNLM
