The month of Tazaungmon is the eighth month in the Myanmar calendar. The fullmoon of Tazaungmon was a significant day when the Lord Buddha delivered a sermon on the advantage of ordination called Samaññaphala Sutta to the congregation led by King Ajatasatta.
On the fullmoon of Tazaungmon, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife, members and families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) joined the 1,000-oil light offering ceremony at Shwephonepwint Pagoda in Zeyathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area in line with the health guidelines of COVID-19.
First, the congregation led by the Senior General and wife opened the 1,000-oil light offering ceremony with the three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. The Senior General and wife and attendees offered flowers, water and oil lights at Shwephonepwint Pagoda and illuminated 1,000 oil lights at the platform of the pagoda.
The Senior General, his wife and attendees recited Buddha Sasana Ciram Titthatu three times to conclude the ceremony.
The lighting festival was held in the compound of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) decorated with the colourful lights following the COVID-19 restrictions.
Families of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) leisurely and happily visited the lighting festival.—MNA
