State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received the delegation led by Mr Adam Boehler, Chief Executive Officer of the US International Development Finance Corporation(DFC) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw at 2:00 pm on 27 October 2020.
At the meeting Mr Adam Boehler briefed DFC’s mission and priorities such as private market orientation, transparency, competitiveness and its policy to enhance cooperation with other countries to open up market access. The two sides discussed possible areas for the advancement of bilateral relations and cooperation between Myanmar and the United States, through the support of DFC in the areas of investment, finance and technical assistance to Myanmar. They also exchanged views on possibilities of cooperation in the sectors of value-added agricultural products, electricity, small industries, contract farming, microfinance, better job creation, education, income generation, etc.
DFC, a development finance bank of the United States Federal Government, is primarily responsible for providing and facilitating the financing of private development projects in low income and lower-middle income countries.
Also present at the meeting were U Thaung Tun, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, U Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International Cooperation, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar and the US delegation included Ms Gwendolyn Cardno, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., US Embassy in Yangon, Ms Kimberly Reed, Chairman of Export-Import Bank, Mr Joshua Cartin, Managing Director for Indo-Pacific, DFC and officials from Departments concerned and DFC.—MNA
