State Counsellor, South Korea’s Trade Minister discuss economic cooperation

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received Mr. Kim Hyun-chong, Minister of Trade of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, at 9:00 hours on 23rd April 2018, Monday, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on enhancing existing bilateral economic relations including the promotion of trade and investment, sharing technology and know-how as well as potentials for establishment of industrial zones in Myanmar.
The visit by Mr. Kim Hyunchong, Minister of Trade of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea is the first by a Minister-level South Korean official to Myanmar since President Moon Jae-in took office in May of last year.
At the meeting, the South Korean Minister said that his country was interested in the special economic zone
being built north of the capital city, and he discussed ways for both sides to create smart factories in the area, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Than Myint, Union Minister for Commerce, U Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International Cooperation, the Permanent Secretary and Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.— Global New Light of Myanmar
