A ceremony of lowering the State Flag to half-mast was held at the Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office), where General Aung San and leaders were assassinated, to mark the 77th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day on the morning of 19 July 2024.
Yangon City Development Committee Chairman Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay and members, departmental staff and the Guard of Honour attended the event. They saluted General Aung San and the fallen leaders. Then, they lowered the National Flag to half-mast and stood in silence for two minutes.
People visited the meeting hall where the leaders fell and the parliamentary building, located in the Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office), as a special exhibition only for yesterday, between 9 am and 5 pm.
Visitors, including students, thronged to the meeting hall where martyrs were assassinated, 28 types of exhibits that remained of martyred leaders and other historical records in the parliament building, which is more than a hundred years old yesterday. — MNA/KZL
