The 27th graduation ceremony of the State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon/Mandalay) was held at the convocation hall of the State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon) yesterday.
Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Dr Bhaddanta Kumara Bhivamsa, Chancellor of the University, Ovadacariya Sayadaws, Teaching/Administrative Head Sayadaws of the State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon/Mandalay), recipient Sayadaws, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Hla Soe and departmental officials joined the event.
The ceremony was opened by reciting “Namo Tassa” three times and the Union minister and party took Five Precepts and Saraniya Ovadakatha from Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Chancellor Sayadaw of State Pariyatti Sasana Universities Dr Bhaddanta Kumara Bhivamsa.
Then, officials listened to sermons delivered by Vice-Chair of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Chairman of State Pariyatti Sasana Universities Administration Central Committee Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumangala Bhivamsa (Maing Thauk Sayadaw).
Then, Union Minister U Ko Ko supplicated religious matters. He said 2,903 monks received degrees up to the 26th graduation ceremony.
In this 27th ceremony, there are 111 recipients of BA (Buddhism) and MA (Buddhism) and one recipient of PhD (Buddhism) from respective Sasana Universities.
He then underlined the important role of universities operating in line with the education policies of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee in producing educated monks.
Then, Region Chief Minister U Hla Soe presented the government efforts for the sake of the country, including the propagation of Buddha Sasana.
Then, State Pariyatti Sasana University Registrar Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumana sought approval of Vice-Chair of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Chairman of State Pariyatti Sasana Universities Administration Central Committee Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumangala Bhivamsa (Maing Thauk Sayadaw) for the lists of degree holders.
The respective venerable Sayadaws conferred relevant degrees to the recipient monks.
Afterwards, the degree recipient monks took the oaths before the Chancellor Sayadaw of the State Pariyatti Sasana Universities.
Next, the congregation led by the Union minister heard sermons delivered by the Vice-Chancellor Sayadaw and shared the merits gained.
The Union minister, departmental officials and well-wishers donated to 130 monks – 18 invited monks and 112 degree-recipient monks.—MNA
