Students visit library in Thegon to foster reading habits

Students from the local primary school visited a public library in Thegon Township, Nattalin District, on the morning of 9 August, as part of a programme designed to instil good reading habits and familiarize them with library resources.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Township Information and Public Relations Department and the Basic Education Department, aimed to enrich students’ knowledge, enhance their critical thinking, and develop a lifelong reading habit. The programme included a tour of the library where students explored various reading materials and learned about the benefits of utilizing the library effectively. Staff Officer Daw Wint Nanda Htay of the Information and Public Relations Department explained the objectives of opening the library to the public. She highlighted the purpose of the library and its role in providing educational resources. Daw Pyae Phyo Thu, Deputy Staff Officer, gave a detailed explanation of the materials displayed in the Mini Museum, as well as the library’s borrowing and reading services. The library has a diverse collection of books and periodicals, and it also offers storytelling sessions using paper puppets to engage children. Students showed great interest in the various books and materials available for borrowing.
Following the library visit, an intellectual quiz was held further to stimulate the students’ knowledge and mental agility. Prizes and rewards were given to the winners, encouraging them to continue pursuing knowledge and making the most of their educational resources. — Maung Shwe Win (Pyay)/KZL
